

She was born on July 9, 1928, in Roodhouse, Illinois, the daughter of Carey Clifton and Ola B. (Clark) Smith. Wilma graduated from Roodhouse Community High School in 1946 and attended Gem City Business College in Quincy. Wilma married Orin Cecil (Cec) Hulen on October 25, 1952. She and Cec had two sons—Steven Ray in 1955 and Mark Alan in 1958. Cec preceded her in death on March 7, 1960.
After Cec passed away, Wilma and the boys moved from Corpus Christi, Texas, to Springfield, Illinois, in 1961, where she resided for nearly 63 years. She went on to work as a service rep for the Illinois Department of Revenue, retiring in 1990 after 17 years of service. Wilma was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Women’s Club, and Verizons Women’s Group for Widows. She loved to read, crochet, work on puzzles, do yard work, and go to garage sales. Wilma was an avid traveler, visiting various states, Mexico, and Canada. In her later years, she still enjoyed day trips, especially to Peoria and St. Louis. Wilma was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved listening to the games on the radio or watching on TV.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steven Hulen; sisters, Wanda Taylor and Bonnie Keltner; brother, Noel Smith; and nieces, Linda Taylor and Lorrie Caffrey.
Wilma is survived by her son, Mark Hulen of Carbondale, IL; granddaughter, Amber (David) Mann of Blue Springs, MO; great-granddaughter, Riley Mann; sister-in-law, Shirley Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held, followed by a private burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
