Alice Corine Doyle, 97, of North Chatham, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 29, 2023. Born in Newton, Massachusetts to Robert and Albertina Desrochers, she grew up in Newton as the third of six children and graduated from Newton High School. She frequently reminisced of her days growing up on Washburn Street alongside many beloved family members and friends. After high school graduation, she worked for the army base in Boston as a secretary. She then worked at Raytheon in Waltham and later worked as an administrator at the YMCA in Newton.
Alice met the love of her life, Philip E. Doyle, at the WWII USO Buddies Club on the Boston Common. They were married on May 13, 1950. They began their married life in Dover, NH and later made their home in Westwood and then Scotch Plains, New Jersey where they raised their family.
Having spent many summers on Cape Cod, Alice and Phil retired to their favorite town of Chatham in 1992. Alice was a member of Eastward Ho! Country Club, Stage Harbor Yacht Club, the Monomoy Yacht Club, and the Chatham Newcomers Club. Alice and Phil were also active parishioners of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where they celebrated many joyous occasions.
Alice’s devotion was always to her family and she has always been regarded as the beloved matriarch and foundation of a large extended family. She took pride in her tidy house with chocolate chip cookies frequently baking in the oven. Alice enjoyed hosting a bridge club or dinner party in her home, and she loved playing tennis and golf for many years. You could frequently find Phil and Alice enjoying a leisurely afternoon boat ride around the Chatham waters or sitting on their porch holding hands enjoying a glass of ginger ale or a coffee with their donut.
Alice never let you leave her house without giving you a tight hug and asking if you needed anything as she offered you cookies and money for the road. Even in her final days, Alice’s wisdom, humor, strength, and graciousness shined through.
Alice is predeceased by her husband, Philip, who passed away in 2018. She is survived by their four children: Philip Doyle Jr. and his wife Betsy of Canton, CT and Chatham and their children Sylvia and Randy; Robert Doyle of Scottsdale, AZ and his three children Meagan Grote, Shannon Gill, and Shawn; Linda and her husband Dr. Brian Cassidy of Scotch Plains, NJ and Chatham and their four children Kevin, Gregory, Colleen McGrail, and Douglas; Nancy and her husband James Babos of Mesa, AZ and their two children Kimberley Wunder and Kristina Rood. She is also survived by her eight great-grandchildren: Tucker, Hunter, Barrett, Elliott, Avery, Ryker, Braeden, and Rosie.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 4 PM to 7 PM at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 11 AM at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 57 Highland Avenue, Chatham, followed by burial in Peoples Cemetery, Chatham.
