Gerry was born and raised in West Roxbury, MA to the late John Charles Vincent Fisher, MD and Mary Adeline Fisher. She spent her younger days playing the piano, learning many creative pastimes that she fine-tuned throughout her life and creating lasting friendships that she cherished all her years. She graduated from Girls Latin School in Boston, MA in 1950 and received a BS in Mathematics from Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, MA in 1954. Gerry’s first job was teaching math with her sister Anne at the Prince School. She went on to work at General Electric in Lynn, MA as a “calculator” where she met Victor, her husband of 62 years. Gerry went on to work at Datamatic using her talents in math to perform the many calculations it took to produce Honeywell’s very first computer. She and Vic married and moved to King of Prussia, PA, where they both worked for GE. Vic and Gerry started their family there, then moved back to Massachusetts to Lynnfield where they lived for 38 years. While in Lynnfield, Gerry taught at the Tower Day School and tutored many, many students in math, as well as forging many more life-long friendships. Vic and Gerry retired to Chatham, MA in 2001, where they lived until shortly after Vic’s death in 2019. Gerry spent her final years in Providence, RI.
Gerry was known for her infectious laugh, her generous friendship and her love of God and family. She was a wonderful cook, prolific knitter, and gifted quilter. She loved to travel, she and Vic cruised through Alaska and the Panama Canal, traveled through the Rockies by train and took many trips abroad and to Prince Edward Island where Gerry’s parents were both born and raised.
