

Born in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, Mr. Kenney was a graduate of Worcester Academy, Williams College and attended Harvard Law School. After induction into the U.S. Naval Reserve as an ensign in 1942, he served as a communications officer in Boston, Massachusetts then was transferred to England assisting in the invasion of France. He was then assigned to the British Royal Navy aboard the HMS Duke of York (flagship of the British Pacific fleet).
Upon discharge from the service in 1945, Mr. Kenney designed and sold knit sportswear in New York City for many years prior to his retirement on Cape Cod. There he was employed by the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company for several years.
Mr. Kenney was the longest standing member of Eastward Ho! Country Club to date, the Chatham Platform Tennis Club, Friends of Pleasant Bay and was a former President of Williams College Cape Cod Association. He also served as a Hospice volunteer and speaker for Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod.
He leaves a son, John D. Kenney, Jr. of Palm Beach Gardens, Fl, a daughter Lisa of Danvers, and a son Scott Francis of Marstons Mills as well as 2 grandchildren, John Oberlander and Grace Kenney.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Holy Redeemer Church, 57 Highland Ave, Chatham, MA. Interment will follow at Peoples Cemetery.
