Originally from the Bronx, New York, Marilyn attended Marymount College in New York City. Marilyn became the bride of Thomas J. Baldwin in 1958 and together they began their family in Yonkers, Syracuse and eventually, Farmingdale, New York. At the age of 41, Marilyn received an associate degree in Nursing as a Registered Nurse from SUNY Albany. An LPN at Consolation Residence in Amityville, New York, Marilyn was later appointed as Nursing Care Coordinator when they expanded to their West Islip, New York location. As their adventure continued, Tom and Marilyn lived in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Florida before settling in Chatham, Massachusetts.
A passionate advocate for her children and grandchildren, Marilyn is remembered as a life force. Her grace and faith never failed and was an example to all who knew her. Marilyn enjoyed extensive travel with her husband but most certainly was happiest home with her family, often after completing the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle, in pen.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Patricia Platt, brothers George and Edward Platt, Jr. and granddaughter, Kayla Baldwin. In testimony of a life very well lived, Marilyn leaves her loving sister Joan Vann, devoted husband and best friend Tom, eleven grateful children Thomas, Jr. and Laurie Baldwin, Michael and Bettianne Baldwin, Christopher and Linda Baldwin, Brian and Mickie Baldwin, Kathryn-Mary and Joseph Pizzurro, and John Baldwin; and adoring grandchildren, Thomas, III and Meg Baldwin, Michael Baldwin, Sarah and Chris Schmied, Sean Baldwin, Brendan Baldwin, Elena Baldwin, Molly Baldwin, Steven Baldwin, Julia Baldwin, Rebecca Baldwin, Chris Baldwin, Caroline Pizzurro and Mary Pizzurro.
A viewing will be held for family and friends from 5 to 9 pm on Friday, November 11 at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road in Chatham.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 am the following day, at Holy Redeemer Church located at 57 Highland Avenue, also in Chatham.
