

Walter “Skip” Thayer, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, at Bourne Manor Nursing Home. He was the son of Walter and Wanda Thayer. Skip was born in Hackensack, N.J. and spent the early days of his life living in Springfield, where he graduated from Technical High School. Later, he moved to South Chatham to be close to his family.
Skip was a “ true craftsman”, a passionate woodworker, and homebuilder. An avid outdoorsman, Skip enjoyed Fishing, canoeing, and camping. He could often be found clamming with his trusty boat, “The Blue Bottom”.
Skip is survived by his son, Douglas, and his wife, Shelbey of Westfield. He leaves his granddaughters Carly, Morgan, and his grandson, Matthew. Skip also leaves his sister, Laurie Savas, and her husband, Peter, of Hyannis, his nephews, Justin, of Sandwich, and Jeffrey, and his wife, Emily, of Chicago.He’s also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Thayer, of North Carolina, and his niece Gwen Thayer, of NYC. Skip was predeceased by his brother, “Charles” Thayer. Skip , leaves many friends and relatives from Western Mass.
