

transitioned on January 25, 2024 in her home at the age of 81 years
old. Anita was born in New Orleans LA to the late Dan L. Bright ,
Sr and the late Rosetta Mildred Joseph-Ganey on January 21, 1943.
She was the mother of Stephanie Alexander Press and the late
Tanya Alexander-Ross.
Anita “Lollipop” was a graduate of McDonogh #35 class of 1961
and received her Bachelor’s degree for the University of New
Orleans. She was a member of the Graduate Chapter of Sigma
Gamma Rho, the Original Ernie K-Doe Baby Dolls and the
Musicians of Treme. She had a passion and love of music. She was self taught to play the piano,
clarinet, flute and saxophone.
She loved the Lord and fellowshipped for many years at Battleground Baptist Church and
Israelite Baptist Church in New Orleans Louisiana. At the time of her death, she fellowshipped
with Action Church in East Ridge Tennessee.
She was employed pre-Katrina in the Orleans Parish School System as a paraprofessional. She
was known many of her students as “Rapping Granma”. Her motto with them was “ You Work
and I Rap”. At her time of death, she was employed with Acropolis Greek Restaurant in
Chattanooga TN as a Hostess. Her classy and sassy personality was so befitting for her job.
Anita was preceded in death her parents, the late Dan L Bright, Sr, and the late Rosetta Mildred
Joseph-Ganey; her oldest daughter, Tanya Alexander-Ross; 2 brothers, Dan L Bright, Jr. and
Kenneth Bright; 2 nieces, Connie Prevost and Donna Marie Bright and 1 nephew, Don L Bright.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Stephanie Alexander Press; Godson, Oscar
Dupre; siblings, Danette Walker(Albert), Beverly Filmore, Paula Stephens(Robert), Billy Mose
and Tommy Madison; Tammy Hansberry, Danita, Nathaniel and Michelle Bright; 9
granddaughters, 2 grandsons, 26 great grands; her God-ordained adopted family the Kyriadidis of
Chattanooga TN; devoted neighbor, Mrs. Candie Carpenter and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, family and friends.
Ms. Lollipop’s life will be celebrated and memorialized on Saturday February 24, 2024 in New
Orleans, Louisiana at the Treme Center, 900 N. Villere Street, NOLA 70116. Entrusted services
