Known to most as “Pops” he had a zest for life and story telling that few can match, but everyone could appreciate. He never met a stranger and could always, always make you laugh. First and foremost Benny was a Christian, he loved the Lord and often talked of Him to his friends and family. He attended Maple Grove Baptist Church until his health began declining. As a veteran of the United States Air Force (1965-1971), serving in Vietnam from July of 1966 to October of 1968, Benny was a true patriot who loved his country and served it well. After his time in the military, Benny continued his love for public service as a second generation Fire Fighter for the City of Chattanooga for 26 years, where he was loved and respected by many. After his retirement, Benny enjoyed a leisurely life of fishing and attending the occasional dirt race.
Benny was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Frances Gaither Carson and his parents, Ralph Martin Carson and Marjorie Wolfe Carson. He is survived by his son, Andy (Angela) Carson, his daughter, Kim (Chris) King, granddaughter, Lindi (Joe) Porter and grandson, Drew (Emily) Carson.
The family will receive friends from 10 am to 1 pm and 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 in the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 10:30 am in the chapel with grandson, Rev. Drew Carson officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Drew Carson, Joe Porter, Blake Templeton, Chief Phil Hyman, Captain Randy Steele and Todd Milsaps serving as pallbearers and Bob Gann, Robert “Chico” Martin and George Davis serving as honorary pallbearers.
