Dennis Arthur Riddell, 79, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, after a multiple year battle with blood cancer. He fought the good fight, and he finished his course, until the Lord called him home.
Dennis was born on March 10, 1945, in Shelbyville, KY, to the late J.T. and Mary Rose Riddell. He was a graduate of Fairdale High School and the University of Kentucky. Dennis was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1965, and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Dennis married his childhood sweetheart, Jamie Sue Stinson, on September 3, 1966, and they remained faithfully married until Jamie’s passing in February 2022. Dennis and Jamie were married for 55 years and together for 61 years. During their marriage, they moved between Oklahoma, Florida, and Kentucky before settling in Chattanooga in 1982.
Dennis retired from Komatsu America Corp. in 2012, after 25 years of faithful service. He began his career with Komatsu in 1986 as a quality engineer and advanced to General Manager of Operations in 1997, the role in which he remained, until his retirement in 2012. During his career, he impacted the lives of countless coworkers, and made positive and lasting contributions in the Chattanooga community.
Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Jamie Sue Riddell, in 2022.
Dennis is survived by his son, Jason Riddell, and his daughter, Robin (Kerry) Nunley; his six grandchildren, Ashlee and Allison Riddell, Sierra (Kenny) Melton, Caleb, Isaac and Reagan Nunley, and his great-granddaughter, McKynzi Tisdale.
Dennis was a selfless servant. He worked diligently to provide for his family, always putting others before himself. He enjoyed golfing, freshwater and saltwater fishing, pickle ball, bocce ball, University of Kentucky athletics, and he was an avid supporter of fastpitch softball. He was never happier than when he was with his family; if a family member had an event of any kind, he would be in the front row cheering them on, without fail.
Dennis was the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend that anyone could have ever asked for, and he will be missed beyond belief. Dennis had a relationship with his Heavenly Father, and we are all eager for the day when we will be reunited again.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 8645 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN, 37421, and a Celebration of Life service will follow at 6 p.m., officiated by Pastor David Hall. Dennis will be laid to rest at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to the MDS Foundation at www.mds-foundation.org. Please also consider being a blood and organ doner and giving others the gift of life.
