Edith Neyman Nelson

Edith Nelson, age 90, passed away on Tuesday Evening January 16, 2024 at a local healthcare facility in Cleveland, TN. She was born on October 2, 1933 in Pisgah, Alabama later moving to Chattanooga where she lived most of her life until moving to Cleveland in 2014.

After moving to Chattanooga, Edith attended Soddy Daisy High School before transferring to Central High School where she was a standout basketball player and captain of her team. She was a graduate of the class of 1951.

Edith worked at Pioneer Bank in Chattanooga as a bank teller for several years before marrying in 1962 to Ted L. Nelson Jr., a local insurance executive and owner of Ted Nelson Insurance Agency. She was a housewife until after the death of her husband in 1980. A short while after her husband's passing, she returned to a career in banking where she retired in 2009 from First Horizon Bank.

She was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church, the YMCA, and the Racket Club in Hixson, TN. Edith was an active racquetball and tennis player playing in a few Tennis Tournaments in the annual "Pat Boone's Bethel Bible Village Celebrity Tournament". She loved the Atlanta Braves and the Tennessee Titans. Edith also enjoyed cooking, drawing, painting, crafting, and most of all gardening and sewing which she excelled at.

Edith is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Neyman and Winola Chitwood Neyman; and nine siblings, J.O. Neyman, Justus Neyman, Louise Cottrell, Julia Morales, Hoyt Neyman, Hubert Neyman, Samuel Neyman, Joann McWhorter, and Marcus Wayne Neyman.

She is survived by daughter, Deborah Nelson Mullins of Cleveland; son, Ted L. Nelson III of Nashville; daughter-in-law, Jennifer R. Nelson of Nashville; four grandchildren, David Lee Mullins of Cleveland, Danielle C. Mullins of Cleveland, Lexie L. Nelson of Nashville, and Brooke E. Nelson of Nashville; one great-grandson, Colt Lee Mullins of Cleveland; and twenty plus nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to fundraising St.Jude.org on behalf of Edith Nelson.

A visitation for Edith will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services - Franklin Strickland Chapel, 1724 Mccallie Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404. Following the visitation will be a committal service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4016 Tennessee Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37410.
