

Elizabeth Hopkins O’Brien, age 92, of Chattanooga passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 in a local hospital.
She was born September 13, 1925 to the late Newton Fisher & Emma Kate Hopkins.
She graduated from Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio with her Bachelor of Arts Degree. She received her Masters of Library Science Degree from Carnegie Institute in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
She was a member of the Bridge Club and various Book Clubs. She was a former employee with the Army, New York City and the city of Boston. She also worked for 20 years as the Librarian at Merrimack College.
She was a philanthropist who regularly contributed to animal rights programs including, but not limited to, ASPCA, as well as many nature organizations.
Her sister, Marjorie Hopkins, and brothers, Richard H. Hopkins and Theodore L. Hopkins preceded her in death.
Survivors include her nieces, Dr. Hilary Hopkins of Wenatchee, Washington and Emma Hopkins of Concord, California; friends, Judge Richard W. Gordon and Richard Hundley both of Chattanooga; and several family members of her late husband Judge Bernard John O’Brien.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the East Brainerd Chapel from 4-7 p.m.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at St. Stephen Catholic Church with Father Manuel Perez officiating.
There will be a graveside service at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, November 3rd at 11:00 am.
She will be laid to rest with her husband, Judge Bernard John O’Brien at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McKamey Animal Center, 4500 N. Access Road, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
