Born on May 9, 1938, in Chattanooga, TN, he was the son of the late George Edward Neely Sr. and Lillie Bell Cleveland. After this introduction, George will be remembered as a faithful, hard-working, and devoted man whose steady presence and commitment to others shaped the lives of those who knew him.
George was a 1956 graduate of Red Bank High School. On July 6, 1958, he married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Pinson, beginning a marriage marked by enduring devotion and shared purpose.
George retired as a Master Sergeant in the Tennessee National Guard, serving as an Information Management Superintendent. His career reflected the same discipline and reliability that defined his life—quietly accomplished, consistently responsible, and rooted in service.
In addition to his military service, George was deeply involved in his community. He served as President of the Brainerd Optimist Club and as secretary of the Chattanooga Florist Association.
A long-time member of Ridgedale Baptist Church, George served as a deacon and greeter, living out his faith through consistent service and dedication to his church family. In his personal time, he enjoyed cars, yardwork, and gardening—simple pleasures that reflected his love of working with his hands and caring for what was entrusted to him.
