

She was born September 29, 1946 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Rev. Gilbert and Estabelle Purtee.
She was a 1964 graduate of East Peoria Community High School and attended Tennessee Temple College in 1964-66.
She was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church and attended Rocky Face Baptist Church where her husband recently served as Interim Pastor.
Her whole life was centered around music. She instilled in the lives of each of her children the love of music and ministry. In addition she was a children’s music teacher giving private piano lessons to many people throughout the years.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Rev. Wm. LaVerle Coats; children, Tracy Coats and Chris (Nancy) Coats of Chattanooga; Kim (Dennis) Bidlack of Homosassa, Florida; grandchildren, Jilliann, Millie, Will, Lenita, and Andrew Coats all of Chattanooga; sisters, Connie (Ted) Pearson of Parrish, Florida; Joy (Butch) Callahan of Pensacola, Florida; brother, Gib Purtee of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to celebrate Gyl’s life will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Euler, Dr. Ben Graham, Rev. Butch Callahan and Rev. Reagan Marsh officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 19, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at the East Brainerd Chapel.
A special thanks is extended to the caregivers of Hospice of Chattanooga, ResCare Home Care Services, and the many friends and family who gave of themselves during Gyl’s sickness.
