Jim was born February 16, 1950 in Chattanooga to the late Winburn & Anne McLaughen.
He was a 1968 graduate of Tyner High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Tennessee Technical University.
He retired from T. V. A. as a Computer Analyst Rates Specialist after 30 years of service.
Jim served in the United States Army for 20 years.
Mr. McLaughen was a lifelong member of Tyner United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jerry Ann McLaughen; son, Hunter (Chara) McLaughen of Ooltewah; Rev. Heath (Jane) McLaughen of Blacksburg, VA; grandchildren, Ethan, Cooper, and Ema McLaughen, Mary Ladson, Henry, and David McLaughen; sister, Nancy Luther of Chattanooga; nieces, Mande Luther and Claire Hufstetler; and nephews, Will Luther and Brandon Hufstetler.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at the East Brainerd Chapel from 4-7 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Tyner United Methodist Church with Rev. Heath McLaughen & Rev. Amanda Dean officiating.
Following the service, Ret. Maj. McLaughen will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full Military Honors.
