With deep love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of John W. Glass III, who went home peacefully on December 19, 2025, at the age of 88. John was a man of unwavering faith, devoted to his family, and committed to serving his country. His life reflected the values he cherished most: God, family, and country.
John proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force and later retired from Westinghouse, leaving behind a career marked by honor and dedication. Beyond his work, John poured his heart into mentoring young men as a longtime Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 60, shaping lives through his example of leadership and character. He was also a faithful member of The Point Church at Signal Mountain, where his love for God and his community touched countless lives.
John’s passions were simple yet profound: his faith, his family, and his country. He lived these values every single day. Those who knew him will remember his strength, his generous spirit, and his unwavering moral compass.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Glass; his brothers, Robert William Glass and James Thomas Glass; and his son-in-law, Edward Leavitt Trey Rhodes.
He leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend, Barbara Sue Glass; his daughter, Wendy Gale Rhodes; his sons, John Webb Glass (Kiley), Jason Wade Glass (Kelly), and Jared William Glass; his cherished grandchildren, Dusty Rhodes (Melissa), Becca Hofacker (Alex), Tanner Glass ( Rachel), Corbin Glass ( Emily), Abby Glass, Kent Glass, and Wes Glass; and six great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy. Each of them carries forward his legacy of love, integrity, and strength.
A celebration of John’s life will be announced at a later date. Friends and family will gather to honor a life well-lived.
“Well done, my good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:21
John will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his legacy an inspiration. May we all strive to live with the same faith, honor, and love that John so beautifully exemplified.
