Larry Coleman Tomlin, a resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2025, at the age of 79. Known for his humorous, kind-hearted, brave, and gentle nature, Larry was a cherished member of his community and family.
Larry was a learned man, having earned a Doctorate in Ministerial Studies. His career was marked by distinguished military service; he served as an Air Field Commander in Germany and was a helicopter pilot. A veteran of the United States Army, Larry bravely served two tours in Vietnam.
He was married to the love of his life, Becky Tomlin, for 60 years. Together, they built a loving family, including their daughter, Bebe (David) Lefkoff, and their son, Larry (Angela) Tomlin. Larry was a devoted grandpa to Matthew (Allysen) Tomlin, Sarah (Brett) Batchelor, Hannah (Jacob Moffat) Tomlin, Jacob (Marah Klett) Tomlin, and Joshua Lefkoff. He is also survived by his sister, Doris (Kenneth) Moore.
In his personal time, Larry enjoyed woodworking, particularly creating religious plaques. He had a deep affection for his cats, Katniss and Tiger Lily, and cherished his time spent gardening, tending to flowers, and growing vegetables. Above all, Larry loved his family and his church community.
Larry was actively involved in his community as the President of the VFW in Gainesville, GA, contributing many years to the organization.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margie Tomlin, his older brother, John Tomlin, his younger brother, Gerald Tomlin, and his twin brother, Barry Tomlin.
Larry's legacy of love, service, and humor will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 in the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Jordan Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
