

She was born on July 7, 1934 in Long Island, New York to the late Aloysius and Magdalen Tolle. Her first husband, Hazen Cornelius, daughter, Mary Ketterer, son, Steven Cornelius, grandson, Jonathan Ketterer, brother, Robert Tolle and sister-in-law, Elaine Tolle precede her in death.
Madelaine was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Photographic Society of Chattanooga. She was an RN, caregiver, Girl Scout Troop Leader, hiker, camper, Appalachian Trail backpacker (“Wildflower” was her trail name), avid walker, author and photographer.
Madelaine had a smile that would light up any room. She was such a positive, kind, giving and bright light in this world and she was always quick to see the beauty in everything. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly knew her as Nanny. She will be greatly missed
Survivors include her husband, Donald Box, daughter, Susan Box Bain (John), son-in-law, Barry Ketterer, grandchildren, Rebecca Ellis (Hudson), Elizabeth Whited (Brandon), Autumn DeHooge (Zachary), Tyler and Nicholas Parrott, great- grandchildren, Madelaine, Claire, David, Timothy and William Ellis, Joshua, Jonathan and Remi Whited and sibling, Sister Marie Tolle.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 22, 2024 in the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, June 28, 2024 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 930 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Appalachian Trail Conference, PO Box 807, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia 25425.
