

Nina Rozelle Ward Norman, age 89, passed away surrounded by family on May 30, 2025. Born on July 23, 1935, she was one of seven children born to Solomon Bertrand Ward and Josie Lou Ethyl Robinson Ward, of Ringgold, Georgia.
A proud graduate of Ringgold High School, Class of 1953, Nina went on to attend North Georgia College. Early in her career, she worked at Sweetwater Rug Company and the Ringgold Telephone Company. For decades she dedicated her life to being a homemaker, caring for her children and husband. She was later called to education, where she served many years as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Spring Creek Elementary in the Hamilton County School System. Nina had a deep compassion for children with special needs and dedicated herself to helping them succeed, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.
She married the love of her life, H. Baxter Norman, on June 16, 1963. Together they shared 45 years of devoted marriage, raising two children and delighting in the role of grandparents. Nina and Baxter created cherished memories with their grandchildren, hosting joyful outings and summer camps that are fondly remembered.
Nina was a long-time member of Tyner United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she was active in the Care Bears group, Flying Solo and the Ruth Circle. Her faith, service, and kindness were evident in every area of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Baxter Norman; her daughter, Laura Norman; siblings, Bert, Joe, Nell Adine, Thomas, Annie Lou, Nancy; and grandson-in-law, Samuel Parks.
She is survived by her son, John Norman, and daughter-in-law, Melinda Norman; grandson, JJ Norman; granddaughter, Hannah Riess and her husband, Ben, and great-granddaughter, Mia Jay Riess; and grandson, Jacob Norman and his wife, Elizabeth. She is also survived by a host of beloved nieces and nephews who brought her great joy throughout her life.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to those who provided compassionate care in Nina’s final years, including granddaughter Hannah Norman, Linda Lockwood, the staff of The White House Assisted Living and Knollwood Manor in Lafayette, Tennessee, and the staff of Gentiva Hospice in Lebanon, Tennessee.
Nina will be remembered for her gentle spirit, generous heart, and the many lives she touched through her work, her church, and her unwavering love for family.
The family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 pm on Friday, June 6, 2025 in the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12 pm in the chapel with Rev. Wert Campbell officiating. Interment to follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
