Donald Richmond passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026. Born on June 16, 1933 in Chesterland, Ohio, Don will be remembered as a creative, hard-working, pragmatic and generous man whose quick, dry wit stayed with him until the very end. Don graduated from West Geauga High school in 1951. Shortly after high school he was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Europe. Don later graduated from Kent State University in 1959 and resided in Chesterland the remainder of his days.
Don had several passions in life that he maintained interest in throughout his years. As a teenager, Don became hooked on auto racing. He enjoyed modifying his own vehicles and taking them out to the track. Later in life Don became very fond of Indy Car racing. He enjoyed working as part of the inspection team during the races in Cleveland in the 1980s. Additionally, Don loved woodworking. Don created the majority of the furniture in his family’s home, including bed frames, dressers, tables, nightstands, desks and more. He made many gifts for his family, and his grandchildren.
Above all Don was a family man. He married Joan in 1963, starting a loving marriage spanning 62 years. They had one son, Marc, in 1971. Don enjoyed spending time with his parents (Judge Harold Richmond and Florence Richmond) either visiting with them locally or meeting them on a vacation. He also enjoyed visiting with his aunts, uncles, and cousins at the annual Fourth of July picnic. Don enjoyed supporting and guiding the next generation of the family when Marc and Jennifer were married in 2002, and had two grandchildren, Megan and Laura.
Professionally, Don supported various communities in Northeastern Ohio as a Real Estate Title Examiner at Lawyer’s Title and a Manager at Midland Title for many years. Additionally, Don managed several financial institutions including Cardinal Federal Bank in Burton, and Nycoll Credit Union in Euclid.
Don is survived by his devoted wife, Joan (Reynolds), his son Marc (Jennifer), and his grandchildren, Megan and Laura. He is also survived by his nieces Pamela Jonas and Claudia Richmond. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Harold J. Richmond and Florence (Caswell), his sister Martha Richmond, and brother Harold J. (Skip) Richmond, Jr.
Donald’s family would like to thank the nurses Tiffany and Britney and all the staff at Ohio Living Hospice for their loving care, and Helen Dunn for her caring support.
Visitation will be held at Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland on Tuesday April 28th 10am to 12pm, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location at 12pm. Interment will take place at Chester Township Cemetery in Chesterland, immediately following the service.
