Joanne H. Meredith (nee Hofstetter) 81, passed away May 4, 2020 at her home in Solon, Ohio after having spent the weekend surrounded by loved ones. Joanne was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 5, 1938 to the late Dr. Charles A. Hofstetter and Isabelle Hofstetter (nee Budden). She was the beloved wife of the late Wilbur “Spike” Meredith; loving mother to Diane Brockway, Susan Brockway, Michael Brockway and stepmother to Dr. Ryan Meredith (Karen), Pam Meredith Stepnick (Dr. David Stepnick), and Dr. Shannon Meredith-Martell (Rick). Joanne was the adoring grandmother to Payton, Logan, Hannah (fiance, Chad), Jake, Dawson, Amanda, Sydney, Taylor, and Caroline; sister to the late Jack Hofstetter (Patricia), and aunt to Scott Hofstetter (the late Krystal), Jan Hofstetter Walz (Bruce), and Bruce Hofstetter (Kim). Joanne was a graduate of Miami University where she was a proud sister of Delta Delta Delta sorority and captain of the synchronized swimming team. In Joanne’s senior year she met her first husband, Larry Brockway, and together they raised their three children. Family traditions were important to Joanne. When she and Spike married in 1986, they built traditions with Spike’s family as well as blended their friendship with Larry, Pat and the children in a very unusual and special extended family. She and Spike loved traveling to New Hampshire and Maine each summer and spending time with the Meredith and Makee families. Joanne was proud of her accomplishments. During her 20 plus year career at Atlas Steel, she started as an administrative assistant and worked her way up to V.P. of Human Resources. She was also so very proud of her 37 years of sobriety, all of her children and grandchildren and her unwavering faith. Joanne/Jo/Mom/Auntie Jo/Grandma Jo will always be remembered by her family and friends for her timeliness, graciousness, being a good listener, always willing to cut any birthday cakes, and being the first awake ready to cook anyone breakfast as she waits at the kitchen counter. We will deeply miss this kind, loving, classy, exceptional lady and know she is at peace with her Maker. A Memorial Service for Joanne will be announced at later date. Contributions or donations are welcome at the Hospice of the Western Reserve. P.O. Box 72101, Cleveland, OH 44192 in Joanne’s name.
