For 20 years, Katy inspired countless young minds as a 5th and 6th grade math and science teacher at Chagrin Falls Intermediate School. Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom through her leadership of the school’s Rocket Club, where she encouraged students to reach for the stars—both figuratively and literally.
Katy’s creativity knew no bounds. A talented jewelry maker, she poured her heart into crafting unique pieces for cherished occasions—gifts for brides on their wedding day and hand-crafted Rosaries for special celebrations at St. Helen Catholic Church, where she and her family were deeply involved members. Her artistic flair was evident in all she did, from the jewelry she made to the beautifully themed birthday cakes she lovingly created for her family each year.
Beyond her artistry, Katy found joy in life’s simple pleasures: reading a good book, tending to her garden, cooking and savoring delicious meals with loved ones. But above all, her greatest source of joy and pride was being a mother to her two daughters, Elizabeth and Lois, whom she loved unconditionally and nurtured with deep devotion.
Katy is survived by her husband Tony; daughters Elizabeth and Lois; parents Dan and Karen Whiting; brothers Ben (Melanie) Whiting and Dan (Emily) Whiting; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Elizabeth Stricharczuk and Robert Vittel, and Harlow and Minnie Mae Whiting.
