Louis A. Parrottino

Louis A. Parrottino, 89, of Mentor, passed away Jan. 13, 2011, at Lake West Medical Center in Willoughby. Born Dec. 16, 1921, in Cleveland, he had lived in Willoughby, Cleveland Heights and Collinwood before moving to Mentor 13 years ago. Lou was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer 3rd Class. He received a Bronze Star while serving in Okinawa and participated in the occupation of Japan. He was a member of the American Legion Post 759 and Collinwood Memories, serving as historian for both organizations. As a survivor of open heart surgery, Lou was active with the Heart Talk Program at Huron Road Hospital in East Cleveland, counseling heart patients having open heart surgery. He was also a Eucharistic Minister at Huron Road. Mr. Parrottino worked as a supervisor in the tool and die department at the General Motor - Fisher Body Plant in Cleveland for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was the first Italian-American accepted into the tool and die apprentice program with General Motors. Survivors are his daughters, Mary Ann (Rudy) Brey and Donna (Kevin) Callaghan; grandsons, Mark and Eric (Nicole) Brey; great-grandchildren, Karen, Jon, Michael, Andrew, Anthony and Elizabeth; sister, Mary Arena; 14 nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and 14 Godchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann (nee Detillio); daughter, Patricia Sudik; son-in-law, James Sudik Sr.; parents, Anna (nee Gritano), Maria (nee Cariotti) and Antonio; brothers, Pat and Joseph; brother-in-law, Frank Arena; and sisters-in-law, Theresa and Angie.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St., Mentor. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. (Please meet at the church.) Father Thomas Johns will officiate.
