

RICHARD J. “ITCH” HLIVAK, age 85, passed away September 23, 2011 at his residence in Willowick. Born May 31, 1926 in Cleveland, he had lived in Willowick for 36 years. Richard was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of the F.O.P. Lodge #8. Itch enjoyed golf and sailing, and was always honored to be a part of his good friend Vic Kovacic’s sailing crew. Richard was a Cleveland Police Detective, retiring in 1980, and later retired as an investigator with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office. Survivors include his wife Jackie (nee Haytas); son John Michael (Jennifer, nee Moore) Apanites; daughter Barbara “Babes” Apanites; grandchildren Aaron and Kate Apanites; sister Florence (Tom) Kandzer; sister-in-law June Hlivak; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. His brothers Robert (Irene) and William Hlivak are deceased. Memorial Mass 11:00 am, Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, 21281 Chardon Rd., Euclid, OH 44117. A luncheon will immediatelly follow the Memorial Mass at the Shrine. Memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine (address above).
