Robert "Bob" Woodworth of Chester Township, who many knew as "Woody", passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at the age of 88 after a struggle with pneumonia. Bob was born May 8, 1925, in Corry, Pa., and will be deeply missed by his wife, Ava; son, Bob (Ruthanne) Woodworth; daughters, Bonnie (Lyle) Morris, Judi (John) Koenig and Jayne (Donald) Paullin; grandchildren, Jamie (Christopher) Weber, Robert (Sarah) Koenig, Richard Morris, Brian (Julie) Koenig, Delaynie Koenig and Jennifer Paullin; and great-grandchildren, Christina and Julia Weber, Dylan Morris and Sarah-Ashley Spires. Bob served in the Navy aboard the USS Franklin from 1943 to 1946 before marrying his wife of 65 years, Ava. In his life Bob worked enthusiastically at everything he did. He was an airplane mechanic, worked for many years at Chase Brass and Copper, owned a gas station in Chester Township and worked for the West Geauga School District's bus garage before retiring.
In life, Bob was full of patience and optimism. He constantly encouraged everybody around him and was always proud of his family. Everyone who met him knew an endlessly social man who had a positive view in the face of any circumstance, present or in hindsight. His personality came through in every story he told and every person he met. Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at the Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m., led by Pastor Matt Chesnes. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation @ jdrf.org.
