Art worked for the Chicago Transit Authority for 29 years and enjoyed his retirement since 2006. He found joy in life’s simplest and most meaningful moments, especially cheering on his favorite football teams, the Chicago Bears and Northwestern Wildcats, while sipping on his favorite ice-cold beer. While gamedays were all about the final score, it was also a time to gather, laugh, and share stories while surrounded by those he loved most. His greatest pride and happiness came from his family, he treasured every moment with his grandchildren, whether it was offering words of wisdom, sharing a smile, or simply being present. Art’s warmth, devotion, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Art is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Lee (nee Lebron); his cherished children Bianca Valdez, Ruben (Heidi) Valdez, Jesus (Misty) Valdez, and Arturo (Eladia) Valdez; his adoring grandchildren Emily, Giovanny, Anthony, Alyssa, Amadeus, Arturo and Karina; his loving siblings Martha (Fernando Lara) Valdez Lara, Ricardo Valdez, Sergio (Elena) Valdez, Alma George, and Liliana Goehrke, and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Arturo and Rosa Leal Valdez, his brother Cesar Valdez and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ramon and Anastacia Lebron.
A visitation for Art will be held on Saturday, February 7 from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N Western Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625.
