Brian L. Erickson was born to Stanley and Rosina (nee Groom) Erickson on November 26, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. Brian grew up in a home filled with music, tales of world travels, including about his mother’s homeland, England. Stanley was a professional musician, who traveled the world with the USO during WWII, and known in the Midwest as “Stan the Accordion Man.” Brian’s parents cultivated in him a strong love of nature, music and adventure.
After college, Brian answered the call of adventure by moving to the Pacific Northwest. He expanded his knowledge of organic farming, forestry, as well as hunting and fishing. Brian returned to Chicago, diving into music, Chicago sports teams, and holistic practices. During this time, he found his soul-mate in Claire Burman. They shared passions for music, traveling, movies, animals, and most of all, each other. Claire and Brian enjoyed many years together, supporting each other through good and hard times, until Claire’s untimely death in 2017. He grieved her death the rest of his life, and found comfort in his faith and his natural curiosity.
Brian died after a short, difficult illness on September 1, 2025 in Chicago. He is preceded in death by his wife, Claire Erickson, his parents, and brother, Ralph. He is survived by his step-daughter, Kathryn Tryneski (John), Claire’s brother and sister, Craig Burman (Laura) and Anne Burman.
Special thanks to staff at Celebrate Niles and Resurrection Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care of Brian. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago.
