

Donald Gerron passed away peacefully at home on October 18th, 2025, at the age of 88 years old. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on January 15th, 1937. On January 13th, 1963, he married Anna Thornsberry who had four children [Charles Smith, Michael Smith, Valencia Smith and Richard Smith] and together they had 3 additional children [Donna Gerron, Anna Gerron, and Donald Gerron Jr.]. Though they later divorced, they remained connected through their shared love for their family. He later married Maria Villanova and they extended the family, raising Macario Jaramillo, Marie Jaramillo, Matito Jaramillo, LaShan Gerron, Tanika Gerron, Shante Gerron and Tiana Gerron.
Donald had a long career as a driver, retiring from the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority in 2004. As a former Golden Gloves competitor, Donald had a passion for boxing. He also loved swimming and was into the arts, enjoying singing, playing the guitar and drawing. Donald will be remembered for his friendly and welcoming nature as well his playfulness and sense of humor.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, William Gerron Sr. and Ida Mae Newson; his children Valencia Smith and Michael Smith, and his siblings William Gerron Jr., Marvin Gerron, Clarence Gerron, Joseph Gerron, Eugene Gerron, Dolores Gerron Williams, Lavern Young, Cornelia Elzy, Janice Roberson and Audrey Harless. He is survived by his remaining children; his brothers Clinton Newson and Joseph Newson; as well as a multitude of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A memorial visitaiton for Donald will be held Friday, November 14, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60646, followed by a celebration of life at 4:00 PM.
