Dear Richard, Renate and Regina,
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom who I fondly remember as Tante Gertrude.  I have so many happy memories of fun times spent with your family in the apartment above your mom's beauty shop on Belmont Ave. She was a sweet and kind lady and such a good friend to my mom. May you all be comforted by the precious memories you hold in your hearts of your mom. I did not know when the services were otherwise I would have tried to come up for them. So sorry to hear of your loss.  I have good memories of the extended Schauer family visiting in Chicago; kids hanging out in the kitchen, parents laughing in the front room and plenty of good food!  Our condolences.

Oma was an extension of our family, and she graciously accepted the position as our loved one, my counselor, my piece of Heimat, and my dear, sweet, beloved friend.  I will treasure each and every moment I was privileged to have with her. She is home now.  Dank Gott!

I met Oma a few times while visiting the Schauers.  I found her to be a truly genuine person and a beautiful lady.  Our daughter Aliya and Andrea are friends. She will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched, including ours.  Rest in peace, Oma.

Remembering all the great stories you've told over the years of your mom and everything she did with you and your family-the trips, travels and family vacations you took together. You are so very blessed to have had the opportunity to make so many great memories with her! Your heart may ache with loss for her now but I hope that the coming months and years will find your heartache replaced with joy every time you think of those wonderful family memories. One that sticks out in my mind, one cold winter night we were all (kids included) playing Blackjack in Renee's dining room. Oma was schooling Nick on the correct dealer methods.
