

Jack Siprut, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, coach, and a man of many talents, passed away on October 13th, 2023, after a brief illness. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Jack was a devoted family man, deeply loving his wife, Nancy (Grammond) Siprut, and showing unwavering dedication as a father to his daughter, Lizzie (Siprut) Kowalewski, and her husband, Ty. His pride extended to his cherished role as a doting grandfather to his grandson, Jack, whose presence brought him immeasurable joy. He was a beloved son of Cecilia (Bierchen) and Joseph Siprut. He cherished the bond he shared with his brother, Joe Siprut, and his wife Kim. He was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Jack was born on January 8th, 1949 and grew up in Rogers Park. He was a proud alumnus of St. Jerome's Grammar School and St. George's High School, graduating in 1967. He was on the swim team competing in the butterfly and as a diver. As a senior, he was the Chicagoland Prep League (CPL) diving champion. He continued his education at the University of Illinois Chicago Circle Campus, where he earned a Degree in Art Education. He furthered his education by earning a Master's Degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, showcasing interest in art and design.
Jack was a retired Art teacher who left a lasting mark on the lives of his students. In his teaching career, Jack dedicated himself to the Chicago Public Schools system. He taught at several high schools, including Calumet High School, Lincoln Park High School, and Schurz High School, leaving behind a legacy of co-created murals that now line the hallways and stairwells. His passion for art and education resonated with his students, many of whom went on to pursue their own creative paths, inspired by his teachings. Jack's dedication to education extended beyond the classroom as he also served as a chess coach and basketball coach, imparting his wisdom and guidance to countless young minds.
Throughout his life, Jack was a man of many talents and passions. In addition to his teaching career, Jack's dedication extended to his many hobbies and accomplishments. As a young man, he earned a 2nd-degree black belt in Karate. Jack's competitive spirit shone through in his love for bowling, exemplified by his impressive high score of 299. He made countless friendships along the way at Timber Lanes and on the Schurz High School faculty team. He dedicated his leisure time to playing golf with friends and shooting pool. He loved engaging conversations that stimulated his audience. Jack spent many a summer day outside at River Park enjoying the bike path and swimming pool. He cherished the companionship of his four-legged friends, displaying a deep love for dogs. Jack was a dedicated Bears fan and liked watching professional golf on TV.
Jack Siprut's life was characterized by his passion for teaching, the arts, his interests and hobbies, and his enduring love for his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Jack's memory will live on in the lessons he imparted and the moments he shared with those around him. A celebration of Jack's life will be held in his honor on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Drake & Sons Funeral Home, 5303 N Western Avenue. Visitation will be from 1:00-4:00 PM with a Celebration of Life at 4:00 PM.
