We mourn the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend to many, who died surrounded by family in Cape Coral, Florida, on May 13, 2019, just weeks shy of her birthday. The eldest daughter of Anna Maria and Benedetto Arcara, she was raised in Chicago, Illinois, where she attended Notre Dame High School. Jo spent twenty happy years married to Russell J. Ossler, who preceded her in death in May 1988, as did her beloved son, Steven Ossler. She enjoyed doing puzzles and reading, and was rarely without a book in her hands. Passionate about education, she continued to take college classes and workshops throughout her adult life, and encouraged her children and grandchildren to attain advanced degrees.
Jo retired in the 1980s but continued to work part-time until December of 2017. Her kindness and generosity of spirit brought joy to the lives of her many friends and acquaintances. Active in the Roman Catholic Church and her Chicago-area community, she served as secretary for both her condo association and the Young at Heart organization at Divine Savior parish.
Jo is survived by three of her children, Ann Marie Borders (James), Linda (Nestor), and Robert Ossler (Sue), seven grandchildren Edmund, Maria, Jacqueline, Julia, Steven Michael, Noelle, Michelle, Heather, great-granddaughters Zahra, Paige, Addison, Mackenna and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial visitation for Josephine will be held Friday, June 21, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 West Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60634. A memorial mass will occur Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Divine Savior Church, 7740 W. Montrose Avenue, Norridge, IL 60706.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mem.com for the Ossler family.
