Rana Marie Chiriboga (Rodgers), age 48, ended her struggle with a series of health issues on October 29, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Chicago, IL on March 9, 1973, Daughter of Kathy Badamo Rodgers and James Rodgers, Sister of Rich Rodgers and William Rodgers.
Rana was a devoted mother to Michael and Lisa Chiriboga that always made things extra special and over the top growing up. She was a great helicopter mom and always came to the rescue when needed. Rana cherished her role as a mother and beloved grandmother to Tyler, Marina and Rowan Chiriboga.
She made a home for us that may have been overprotective but never unreasonable. My family shares endless memories of her. She loved a good party and had a lot of friends that she made effortlessly. She would say it was because she had a good heart and if you were lucky enough to know her, I’m sure you would agree. She was so charismatic and quick witted that she could do anything - especially if you told her she couldn’t. She had a face that would draw people in, strangers into personal conversations, that would leave me asking her if she knew that person and I would be surprised when she would say no.
Later in life, she suffered from a series of unforeseen losses that she never fully recovered from, which contributed to her physical deterioration but wouldn’t stop her spirit and her love as she continued making her way through this life. Bearing witness I can say she was a fighter all the way to the end, and though it was painful to watch I did not look away before she drew her last breath.
Rana and my father were separated for the last part of their marriage. He would say they were soul mates, with many similarities and coincidences intertwined in their life together and yet very opposite of each other. As much as he protested about her over the years, he never fully let her go. The tragedy is he finally understood and admitted to himself the truth. Unfortunately it took her passing away for him to realize that he was prideful, wrong and foolish, never allowing himself to reconcile with her and tell her, even if it was just to remain friends.
We are grateful for the friends and family that reached out to her, stood beside her and tried to support and be a friend to her, even when she might have pushed you away; for those that gave her some comfort and companionship; for those she called sister and said I love you too. Thank you.
He says he feels conflicted looking back and reflecting, seeing a room full of pictures laid before him of their life together, stripping back every other emotion only to reveal the love he has for her. Seeing the family that they created together, what was built and how grateful I am for what she has left behind.
I feel I strayed so far from her heart that she cannot hear me - but maybe through my children, all of you, and the people that stayed closest to her heart, the people that stayed in her life, she will.
Rana is survived by her father, James Rodgers and so many dear friends and family.
