It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we share that Soledad “Sonia” Alisangco from Chicago, Illinois unexpectedly passed away on May 15th, 2023. Her loving family was with her at her bedside. Sonia is survived by her 3 children: Gary Santayana (ex-wife Karen), Tess Santayana (Mike Wheeler) and Cor Salvador (John). Her greatest loves were here 3 “apos” grandchildren: Kary Santayana, Hope Salvador and Maddie Salvador.
Sonia was born in Manila, Philippines on September 17, 1940 to Soledad and Jose. She was the eldest of 7 children (Jose, Jaime, Nanette, Frankie, Leticia and Salve). She was a cousin and “Tita” aunt to many. Sonia graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, in 1961, with a major in Chemical Engineering. In 1973, she started a new life in the United States, by relocating her family to Chicago and had a successful career at BP Amoco for over 30 plus years. She lived her life to the fullest by raising a family, working full time, going on many adventures travelling the world, and participated in many activities that she loved such as tennis, yoga and most of all, shopping. She always had a perfect manicure and hair styles to keep up with the times.
Upon retirement, she devoted her time to the grandchildren as “Lola” – they were her pride and joy always making sure their needs and wants were met. She also volunteered at the hospital, went on field trips with her senior groups, travelled some more and of course, shopped happily. “Pasyal” roam around was her most favorite activity, no matter where or with whom.
Sonia is now in eternal peace in heaven, reunited with her beloved son, SFC Leonardo “Lee” Santayana, playing mahjong with her parents, and catching up with “chismis” gossip with everyone else.
She loved many, is loved by many and will be missed tremendously.
