Susan Ann Kempf

Susan (“Susie”) Kempf passed away peacefully on June 23rd, 2023, at the age of 76. She was born on August 5th, 1946, in Chicago, IL. She was an only child to parents Emil and Gertrude Baun. She is survived by her beloved husband Guenter, sons Michael (Georgia) and Peter (Becky), and grandchildren Abby, Julia, Lizzy, and Nick, to whom she was affectionately known as “Oma.”

Susie met Guenter on May 13th, 1966, and they married exactly one year later on May 13th, 1967. She worked at Pan American Airlines before taking time to raise her two children. When the boys reached elementary school, she began working at the Chicago Brauhaus and continued through the restaurant’s closing in December of 2017. At the restaurant, she greeted thousands of guests with her beautiful smile and passion for the family business.

Susie was an animal lover and cared for many pets throughout her life. Her favorite animal was a “piggy,” showcased through her charming collection of piggy-themed decor and ornaments. Susie also loved traveling, especially with her family and friends. Her favorite destinations included Mexico, Germany, Florida, and Hawaii. Still, she was happiest being on her boat in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and floating in the summer sun.

Susie loved sunflowers, put together elaborate Easter baskets, baked hundreds of delicious cookies to share each Christmas, was always best-dressed, and made the best cheesecake and potato salad there was. She will be remembered for her fiery spirit, lifelong friendships, and abundant love for her family.

Friends and family will gather for a visitation that will be held on Thursday, June 29th, from 3:00 - 7:00 pm at Drake and Sons Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Avenue, Chicago Illinois. Memorials in Susan's name may be made to the, Ann and Robert H Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago
