Thomas Francis Gianni

5 janvier 196030 mars 2020

Thomas "Tom" Francis Gianni was born on January 5, 1960, and passed away peacefully on March 30, 2020. Adoring son of the late Louis Gianni and Margaret (nee Majewski) Gianni. Much loved husband of Karen (nee Lakowski) Gianni. Loving father of Anna Gianni. Cherished brother of Rita (David) Anderson, Gary (Julie) Gianni, and the late Helen Weidig. Thomas will be missed by his nieces and nephews and many friends. Thomas worked as a book illustrator, freelance artist, and most notably courtroom artist for WGN, NBC, and WTTW in Chicago. He was the paint strokes that gave our lives color - the world will be far less colorful without him. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Thomas's favorite organizations, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and One Tail at a Time, where he adopted his best friend and steadfast companion, Rocky. Thomas's family is planning a memorial service in celebration of his life and his life's work at a later date. For information 773-561-6874.

Tom took me under his wing when I was completely overwhelmed in my first professional studio experience. His kindness, thoughtfulness, and guidance were instrumental in kickstarting me on the path I had chosen, and I will forever be grateful to him. When you had the pleasure of coming across Tom, and his brother Gary, in any setting, it was a treat, as you were transported back in time to when creating art was a gentleman's game, and a lifelong, virtuous calling that left an incredible impression. Tom espoused those values from the day I met him, and the greatest lesson I am left with him being in my life is not an artistic one, but one of kindness, thoughtfulness and regard for others. I am so sorry for your loss.

To the Gianni family my deepest condolences for your loss from myself and the entire Darrow family. The Darrow's and Gianni's have known each other for a long time. It goes all the way back to Gary attending the same art school as my uncle, Geof Darrow. The Giannis have always been good to all of us Darrows. When I attended The American Academy of Art Tom was a teacher there, sadly I never got the chance to have him as a teacher but that didn't stop him from looking in on me from time to time. He took time to give me advice and always showed support. It meant a lot to me but that's the type of man Tom was. I got the chance to see him one last time at C2E2 back in February and as always he cared more about how I was doing. I am going to miss running into him at conventions and being able to get that sage advice. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Giannis. Godspeed Tom and thanks for everything it was an honor to have known you.

Sad to learn that Tom is no longer among us. My heart goes out to you, his family. I will miss talking with Tom about his art and the love of other artists work.
I remember his love of old movies, the last flick a bunch of us saw together at the Musicbox was 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Afterwards we headed over to Dante’s Inferno for pizza. Sharing good times like that with Tom will always be remembered. I will miss him.
Sincerely, Tim Isaacson

I'm crestfallen to hear this news. I knew Tom through the Geek Culture/Comics Community, and we had one of those relationships where we'd always catch up at New York Comic Con, San Diego Comic-Con and, of course, C2E2. He was a big talent I loved his work. In fact, my wife, uncharacteristically bought one of his prints because she loved it so much. (She's usually not a big fan of comics or pulps.) I'll miss his kind smile, warm laugh and wonderful artwork. Godspeed, old buddy.

I was an illustration student of Tom (and Gary) in the early 90s at Ray College of Design. Tom was one of those teachers who never made it easy to get an "A" on a project. With that, he instilled in me that there is always plenty of room for improvement in your craft and always pushed me to put 100% in every creative piece I did. He (along with Gary) taught me many traditional art skills and techniques which I've practiced and developed throughout my art career and my life. He was one of those people who played an influential role in my college education and had made a tremendous impact on my art skills. Thank you, Tom(and Gary), for sharing and teaching me your wealth of knowledge of art. It has been invaluable in my career in art and design.

My sincere condolences to the Gianni family. Rest peacefully, Tom.

My condolences to the family of Tom Gianni. I only worked with him from afar and would often call on him to provide court sketches in Chicago for the NBC News Channel, the feed service for NBC News. Tom was a talented sketch artist and always came through for us. His service to our company and kind spirit will be missed. God bless you all during this difficult time.
