Virginia Mae Fox passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and quiet devotion. She was the loving wife of Fred and the devoted mother of her son, David.
Virginia was born Virginia Mae Marshall in Maysville, Kentucky, to Alexander Keith Marshall and Mildred Lee Marshall. She was the youngest of six children and the last surviving sibling of Charles, Lucy, Dorothy, Francis, and Nancy.
Soon after David's birth, Virginia found herself a single mother. With the loving support of family and friends, she raised her son surrounded by care and affection. Her life took a joyful turn when she met Fred during one of his business trips to Browning. What began as a chance meeting grew into a new life for Virginia and David in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
Virginia and Fred shared a marriage devoted to the happiness and well-being of their son. Their partnership was marked by love, commitment, and family devotion until Fred's passing in 2021, just five months short of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Virginia was a dedicated homemaker who lovingly cared for her family every day. She was adored by her family and friends and known for the sincere smile and warmth she extended to everyone she met. Her gentle nature and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
During her working years, Virginia was a receptionist for Browning, an industrial parts distributor in Maysville, Kentucky, and later for a real estate business in Evanston, Illinois. In every role, she brought care, dedication, and grace.
She greatly enjoyed attending her son's sporting events, spending days at the horse racing track with Fred and their friends, and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and the Kentucky Wildcats. She also loved watching golf, playing weekly poker games with "the girls," and reading romance and other novels--first in paperback and later on her Kindle.
In her final 15 months at Lincolnwood Place, Virginia formed new friendships with ease, even though she often felt that making friends was difficult for her. She enjoyed gathering with her new friends to play Rummikub and mahjong, and attending bingo games and live musical performances. Those around her quickly recognized the sweetness in her spirit, a defining quality that touched so many lives and will remain her lasting legacy.
A service honoring Virginia's life will be held at the Memorial Park Mausoleum in Skokie, Illinois, on Wednesday, December 31st, at 3:00 p.m. Guests are asked to enter from the south side of the building and turn right to the ground floor seating area. The mausoleum is located at 9900 Gross Point Road, Skokie, IL 60076.
Memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared in the online guest book.
