Billye Jean Thompson Whitlock, a lifelong resident of Vincent, Alabama passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010 after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 18, 1926 to John H. and Alva G. Thompson.
Mrs. Whitlock was a graduate of Jacksonville State University where she earned a B.S. Degree in education. Later, she received a Master’s Degree in the same field from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She was chosen to become a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Honor Society and was a 1975 Top 5 State Finalist for Teacher of the Year. She taught 30 years with the Talladega County School System.
Mrs. Whitlock served her community on the Housing Committee for 25 years. She also served as an election poll official for over 20 years. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Vincent.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Homer Nelson Whitlock and two sons: Perry Hallet Whitlock and John Thompson Whitlock.
She is survived by son, Billy Nelson Whitlock (Tricia) and daughter, Patte Ann Whitlock Shinn; sisters: Joy Thompson Limbaugh and Fanny Thompson Hinds; and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 8, 2010 from 5 until 8 PM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 9th at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church of Vincent with the Reverend Darryl Wood officiating. Mrs. Whitlock will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Vincent Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, or, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Vincent. Condolences may be offered at www.curtisandsonfunerals.com
