Funeral service for Edmund J.H. Johnson Sr., Childersburg will be Monday, August 5, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Childersburg First Methodist Church with the Rev. Preston Headrick and Rev. Mike Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday, August 4, 2024 from 5-8 PM at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel.
Mr. Johnson died peacefully on July 30, 2024 and was 101 years old at the time of his death. He was born in Virginia, Minnesota, the oldest of six children. He enlisted with the US Coast Guard and was stationed in Savannah, GA, where he met his wife (Norine) of 76 years. He moved to Childersburg with his wife and family in 1951. He was an electrician by trade and retired from Kimberly Clark Corp.
Mr. Johnson joined Childersburg First Methodist Church in 1951 and was very active in the church and in the Emmaus Community. He was a long time active member of the Gideons. He enjoyed the camaraderie of playing golf, picking it up after retiring from work. He enjoyed traveling and camping, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Norine (2021). Survivors include his four sons, Edmund J.H. Johnson, Jr. (Mary Anne) of Arab, Daniel J. Johnson (Brenda) of Durham, NC, Joseph R. Johnson (Deborah) of Yuma, AZ, James A. Johnson (Carol) of Dadeville, AL, one daughter, Judi Headrick (Preston) of Hamilton, 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
