Passed away peacefully on January 22, 2021 in Queens Park Care Centre, New Westminster, BC at the age of 100 with her loving daughter Elizabeth (Beth) by her side.
Along with her daughter, Angie will be sadly missed by her daughter-in-law, granddaughter and three great grandsons. She’ll also be missed by many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Angie was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Saverun (Sav) in 2006 and her son Dannis (Dan) in 2009. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of six sisters: Stella, Victoria, Jeannie, Marion, Helen and Frances; and six brothers: Albert, Phillip, Walter, Louis, Joseph and Frank.
Angie and Sav met in Vancouver through her sister Stella and husband Paul. They were married in Vancouver in 1945 and soon moved to Floods (5 miles west of Hope, BC) where Sav had purchased property. During the years that followed, they raised their family which also included fostering over the years four boys and an infant girl. After all children had grown and left home, Angie did part-time work at the Hope Bus Depot and the nearby truck stop café. Her last job (which re-energized her) was as an On Call Matron for the Hope Detachment of the RCMP.
They sold the house in 1999 and Angie and Sav moved to Chilliwack where she discovered a hidden talent for crafting using shells. If a relative or friend told Angie of an upcoming trip south or to Hawaii, they were asked to bring back some shells. Because Angie did not eat seafood or fish (except salmon), Beth enjoyed many bowls of steamed mussels and gave the shells to her mother. Angie’s shell picture frames, wall sconces, door hangings, etc. were unique and are still enjoyed by many. Arthritis in her hands and the beginnings of dementia ended her shell crafting.
In the summer of 2018 Angie moved into Waverly Assisted Living (thank you to the staff and health care workers for being so kind and caring) and in the fall of 2019 moved to Queens Park Care Centre in New Westminster where she resided until her passing. All of the Queens Park health care professionals on 2-West were outstanding and helped make Mom’s last days easier; forever grateful to everyone.
A private viewing at 10:30am will precede a private Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 8909 Mary Street, Chilliwack at 11:00am on Monday, February 1st. Following Mass she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Vedder View Gardens Cemetery, 44675 Watson Road, Chilliwack. All current COVID-19 protocols in BC will be in place for the viewing, mass and cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Angie’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC; www.alzheimer.ca/bc or 1-800-936-6033 or to a charity of your choice.
