Surrounded by family Bernadette Chiu Tang Tam (nee Li) peacefully passed at the age of 106 years on August 15, 2025 in Richmond BC.
Born in China, Bernadette immigrated to Canada in 1969. She worked as a physical education teacher in Hong Kong and enjoyed providing helpful swimming tips to her grandchildren and great grandchildren up to her last days. She worked at St Paul’s and Shaughnessy hospitals before retiring and relocating to Chilliwack. She kept herself busy after retiring with her knitting and crocheting or working a day at the office (which was a day at the casino). Her favourite time spent always involved eating dim sum and watching her grandchildren joke around and share stories. She also became an ace at Minoru bingo days, always sharing her winnings with her grandchildren.
She leaves behind her son Joseph (Fanny), grandchildren Irene, Vanessa (Antonella), Jason (Charlene), Natasha and Fiona (Colin) and great grandchildren Elliot, Rory, Clayton, Jaylen, Declan, Kiera, and Caden. Bernadette is predeceased by her husband Stephen, and son Michael (Roberta).
Family thanks all those involved in Bernadette’s care for the past many years, especially the staff of Minoru Care Home and Grace Care Home in Richmond. You were all family to her and were instrumental in her living her fullest life to106 years.
For all those who knew of or met her, you know she was the original OG. She will be deeply missed by all and we are all blessed to have had her in our lives.
