Beverly May Figgitt
Beverly May FIGGITT, age 94, of Chilliwack, British Columbia passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022. Beverly was born September 6, 1928.
Beverly May Figgitt (Gardhouse)
Bev was born and raised in Sardis along with her four sisters. She married Wilf Figgitt on May 11, 1948. Being a military wife was not easy. In the 1950’s Wilf was serving in the Korean War leaving Bev to raise their 3 young children.
Following the war Bev went to work in the family business. ‘The Pop In Cafe’ was an institution in Vedder Crossing next to CFB Chilliwack. She was an excellent cook and baker known for her delicious pies and butter tarts. She went on to work for the IGA, Woolworths and then Sears.
Bev and Wilf loved to garden and their half acre property on Griffin Drive was a magnificent show garden where they spent many happy times entertaining their grandchildren, other family members and guests.
Bev loved to serve and was as a member of the Chilliwack Hospital Auxiliary, the Lady Lions and the Ruth Rebekah’s lodge. She was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church.
After Wilf’s passing Bev moved to Wellsbrook in Sardis where she had a group of close friends who went on several trips together. She was involved in the social committee where she helped organize Halloween parties, Christmas Dinners, and Valentines events.
As remembered by one of her granddaughters “she was an extraordinary woman who loved whole heartedly, protected fiercely, gave generously, played heartily, and supported devotedly. She constantly demonstrated grit and resiliency”.
Beverly was predeceased by her husband Wilf, parents Frank and Hilda Gardhouse and sisters Shirley, Juanita and Bernice.
She is survived by her three children Linda (Jim) King, Karen (Jim) McCaughan, Bill (Marilyn) Figgitt and grandchildren Eddie, Julia, Kathy, Kristy, Daniel, Jillian, Tyler and Matthew as well as 13 great grandchildren, her sister Donna (Tom) Dever and many nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to daughter-in-law Pam McCaughan for her extended loving care and to the staff at Valleyhaven Retirement Community for their compassionate care with a special thank you to Angela Huth.
Graveside service will be held at Chilliwack Cemetery on Monday September 26th at 11:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life at Woodlawn Funeral Chapel at 12:00 pm
