Born on August 15, 1935, in St. Walburg, Saskatchewan, Dorothy was the second eldest of four children. Raised in a strong faith-filled family in rural Saskatchewan, she learned early the values of hard work, compassion, and perseverance. She worked tirelessly on the family farm and proudly served as a tour guide in the Imhoff Art Studio, sharing her family's artistic heritage with visitors from near and far.
Dorothy’s adventurous spirit led her north to the Yukon with her sister Joyce, where she met her future husband, Blake. They married and built a life together, raising five children. Dorothy was a loving mother and wife, known for her industrious, creative, and resourceful nature.
She not only raised her own children with care and dedication but also extended her nurturing spirit to many families through her work in childcare. She saved money and enriched family life by sewing clothes, home cooking, tending a large garden, picking berries, and treasure-hunting at garage sales. Her family cherishes fond memories of camping trips, travels, and the many adventures they shared—including the time she bravely fought off a black bear at a picnic table to protect her loved ones and her dishcloth!
In retirement, Dorothy and Blake owned a small hobby farm in Rosedale, BC, where countless family gatherings and memories were made. They also enjoyed life as snowbirds, traveling back and forth to Mesa, Arizona in their motorhome, where they were beloved members of a vibrant retirement community. Dorothy especially enjoyed visiting casinos and sharing laughs with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Carl Imhoff. She is survived by her devoted husband, Blakely Richard Baxter; her five children Barbara (Nick), Brenda, Bill, Bruce (Sarah), Bev (David); ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the healthcare providers and friends for their compassion and care during this time.
Dorothy’s life was a beautiful example of love in action. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
