Earl is remembered by his sons Aaron and Peter; his sisters Sheilah, Nini, and Heather; and a large extended family of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbours, singers, and gardeners.
An independent soul, now free — Earl lived life entirely on his own terms. A decade ago, he miraculously survived a fall from his roof, emerged from his coma ahead of schedule, flailing wildly (none too appreciative of the “brain drain” the surgeons had installed). A fighter to the very end, he defied all odds…and most medical advice.
He will be fondly remembered for both his perseverance and his softer side: his poetry, guitars, original songs, and the generosity he showed to loved ones and neighbours alike.
When Vital Statistics asked for his occupation, the answer could have been many things. “Gardener” was the only thing that really fit.
Earl will be remembered for his role as a dad, brother, neighbour, and community helper; his green thumb; and his many passions: History, long-form dialogue, adventure (including misadventure), travel, hiking, politics, art, and antiques.
A Celebration of Life in Earl’s honour will be held in Maple Ridge in early summer — an open mic. Celebrating the best years of his life with music & song. Details to follow.
