Evelyn Kathleen (Katie) Turner (née McAstocker)
Born June 7, 1945 in Penticton, BC – Passed away October 8, 2025
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mom, Evelyn Kathleen (Katie) Turner, who passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025.
Katie was predeceased by her loving husband, Kenneth Turner (2005), and her cherished eldest daughter, Karla (2012). She will be deeply missed by her daughter Jacqueline Turner (Jason) son Mathew Turner (Julia), her brother Mike, sisters Anne and Helen, and by many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.
Born in Penticton, BC, Katie was the youngest of eleven children in the McAstocker family. She was adored by her brothers and sisters and carried with her the deep sense of love, laughter, and togetherness that came from growing up in such a large and caring family.
Katie spent her career as a community librarian, beginning at the Yarrow Branch and later managing the circulation department at the Chilliwack Branch. Her passion for books and people made her work truly special—she loved helping others discover new stories and always had a kind word and a warm smile to share.
Katie will be remembered for her gentle heart, quick wit, and joyful laugh and her willingness to help everyone. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome, safe and valued. Her kindness, patience, and love touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She had a beautiful zest for life—a love of family gatherings, bonfires with friends, and quiet moments with a good book. She enjoyed being involved in community groups and recreation. She cherished phone calls from loved ones and found happiness in the simple things that made her life full.
Her legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to family. She taught us the importance of compassion, laughter, and showing up for the people you love.
A celebration of Katie’s life will be held November 1, 2025, 2 pm at the Ryder Lake Hall. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honour her memory by taking a moment out of your busy day to perform an act of kindness—something Katie did so naturally and often.
She will be forever missed and always remembered with love.
