It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of George Parent who departed this life peacefully on December 4th, 2025 in Chilliwack, BC at the age of 93 yrs old. He was the second of six born to Eddie and Juliette Parent on October 24th, 1932, in St. Narcisse, QU then later moving and growing up in Shawinigan Falls, QU. George started work at the age of 14 yrs (lied about his age) in La Trenche, QC building a hydro dam. It was here that he met Marie White of Glace Bay, NS and later married in 1953. He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Navy) at the age of 20 yrs, training in Cornwallis, NS and it was there he learned to speak English. George was first stationed, with his family, at Shearwater, NS where he served on the ships; HMCS Warrior, HMCS Magnificent and HMCS Bonaventure. Being bilingual, he was later stationed at Base Borden, Ont, then Chilliwack, BC and lastly at Bagotville, QC. After retiring from the Armed Forces at 48 yrs, he moved back to Sardis, BC. He soon began working for the Federal Correction Service as a Living Unit Officer (also French liaison) at Kent Institution, Agassiz and received an honorary acknowledgment for his 37 years of combined Public Service with pride and integrity. He retired at age 58 yrs and then began his life of “leisure.” His passion was playing hockey, starting around 12 yrs playing on teams wherever he lived then finally hanging up his skates at 86 years old. He also enjoyed golfing, curling, five pin bowling, playing cards and weekly games night with family and friends. He really enjoyed planning family camping trips across Canada and the USA. George was an active member of the Legion; he read the newspapers everyday cover to cover as well as National Geographic and was a great DYI handyman at home. George is preceded by his wife Marie Parent (White) of 68 years, his second daughter Coleen Korbeld (Parent), brother Fred Parent, sisters Denise Gelinas (Parent) and Carmen Provancher (Parent). George is survived in death by three daughters, Carmen Rotella, Carol Peters and Denise Parent, son-in-law Bob Peters, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, all in the Lower Mainland and his brother Hermann Parent and sister Diane Parent living in Quebec. George was a man of wisdom, kindness, with a sly sense of humor. He was notoriously frugal with himself but graciously generous with others. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends and many more whose lives were touched by him. There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to our dad’s neighbors who were there for him through the years. He lived life to the fullest and with help from his daughters he left this earth on his own terms. George chose not to have a memorial service. However, he did request that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local Salvation Army.
