Heather McBride entered this world on a beautiful, warm summer day in 1959, the cherished daughter of Norma (née Harris, d. 2006) and Bernard McBride (d. 2009). She arrived as the joyful little sister to Bill, who left us far too soon in 2007, and the devoted big sister to Cheryl, who now spends her winters in Florida and summers in Maine with her husband, Mark Ramsey.
From her early days in St. Williams, through moves to Delhi, London, Sarnia, Newmarket in Ontario, and later to Abbotsford and finally Chilliwack, British Columbia, Heather had a rare gift: she gathered friends the way sunlight draws flowers. In every place she lived, lifelong companions blossomed around her warmth and infectious spirit.
Heather loved to laugh, play board games and cards, dance, take long beach walks, and—most delightfully—savor dessert, preferably first! As a young girl, she dreamed of becoming an airline stewardess, but soon decided it was far better to simply buy a ticket and explore the world herself. She traveled joyfully to Italy, France, Spain, Venezuela, parts of Mexico, Hawaii, and beyond—often with her sister Cheryl by her side. No matter the destination, the two sisters would dissolve into helpless, contagious giggles, sometimes for no reason at all. Their shared joy was a private melody, heard only by them.
Above all else, Heather loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Her Bible was her constant companion, its pages worn soft from a lifetime of seeking and clinging to God’s promises. She lived faithfully in the light of those promises—and now she dwells fully within them.
Heather will be profoundly missed by her sister Cheryl and brother-in-law Mark, her nephew Shawn McBride, Aunt Pat and Uncle Wayne McBride, Auntie May (Kalus), a wide circle of cousins, and countless friends whose lives she brightened with her kindness and laughter.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks only this: take a quiet moment for prayer. Visit a Bible-based church and hear the Gospel proclaimed. Earthly life is brief, yet for those who believe, God promises life everlasting.
Heather is deeply missed, but her family and friends find comfort in knowing she is now with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” – John 11:25-26
