He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lynda Denise Swain; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Laura Swain; and his sister and brother-in-law, Cathie and Cal Herron of East Selkirk, MB, and their family.
Born In Windsor Ontario, Jim moved when he was a year old with his family to Winnipeg, where he lived until he and his wife, Lynda and their infant son James moved out to the West Coast and settled in Richmond, BC, a suburb of Vancouver. From there Jim and Lynda retired to Agassiz, B.C.
Jim had many interests and hobbies throughout his life. Both he and Lynda were avid travellers, together they explored 79 countries before Jim made his final journey. It just wasn’t natural if they didn’t have a trip planned. Safaris in East Africa were his favorite, with cruises following as his second favorite. Together Jim and Lynda managed to go to East Africa 5 times over the last 20 years.
Jim’s other interest included woodworking, ham radio, electronics, cooking and BBQ and generally just enjoying life.
Jim was actively involved with Toastmasters International and the Data Processing Managerial Association in the 70’s and 80’s. He, along with his wife Lynda were both actively involved with the Boy Scouts in the 80’s and 90’s.
In his professional life he was, right from the start of the ‘computer age’, involved in one managerial facet of the computer industry or other. His crowning glory was setting up the education and training necessary to certify Project Managers for Telus.
He will be missed by all who knew him, most especially his wife Lynda and son James. We will hold a Celebration of Life of Memorial for him in the spring of 2026.
