Born on July 7, 1947, in Chilliwack to Donald and Marjorie Vickerson, Jim grew up with his sister Gayle. After graduating from Chilliwack Senior Secondary in 1965, he earned his Master’s degree from UBC in 1973. Jim married Judith (Orr) Vickerson on July 24, 1971. After their marriage, Jim and Judy settled in Vancouver for five years before moving back to Ryder Lake, where they raised their family. There, Jim designed and built his dream house, creating a home filled with love and memories for his family.
Jim was never still. His love and passion for nature took him up mountains, to lakes and oceans, kayaking with friends and family, and camping with his children when they were little. His adventurous spirit was an inspiration to everyone around him.
Jim was a proud father to Shane, Daisy (Devin), Wes, and Justice. He was also a devoted grandfather who adored his grandchildren, Brayden, Kolby, Addison, Kira, Nolan, Dominic, and Rosalia. His family was his greatest joy, and he treasured the time spent with them.
Jim’s career with the City of Chilliwack spanned many years, starting in the Planning Department and later moving into Parks and Recreation. He played a vital role in developing the trails, bridges, and natural spaces that continue to serve the community today.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. He was dedicated to his family, the outdoors, and his community, volunteering for nearly 50 years with Chilliwack Search and Rescue. Jim’s contributions to his family, friends, and community will be remembered for years to come.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Ryder Lake Hall (49265 Elk View Rd, Chilliwack, BC V4Z 1E8) on April 12, 2025, from 2–4 p.m. We invite all who knew him to join us in honoring his memory and the impact he made on his family and community.
