

Jessie Wurtz, a grand lady and matriarch of our family, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2013 with her family at her side.
She was born at her home in Colonsay, Saskatchewan December 2, 1915. After meeting her future husband Alfred Wurtz and living in Cando for a number of years they moved their small family to Chilliwack, BC in 1954.
She began a career as Practical Nurse at the age of 40 and worked at Chilliwack Hospital until retiring at age 65. On retiring she kept busy looking after two of her grandchildren as well as her many volunteer activities.
She was very active in her church community being a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 50 years. She was also involved with Lady Lions, Senior’s Outreach, Hearth & Stroke Club, and volunteered at Mother Teresa’s Place.
At one point she received a Volunteerism Award from Mayor Hames.
She always had a positive outlook on life and found great joy in having family and friends for meals at her home. Another great joy in her life was the time spent with friends playing cards and Scrabble.
Jessie was predeceased by two infant children, her grandson, Adam, and her husband Alfred Wurtz.
Jessie is survived by her son, Calvin (Trudy), daughter, Lorraine Bailey (Bill), brother, Peter Berezowski (Ethel), sister Mary Kopek, grandchildren: Tim Wurtz, Kelly O’Clair (Keith), Shauna Gallon (Jason), Shelby Hall (Derek), and great-grandchildren: Olivia & Maisy Wurtz, Kiralyah & Tate O’Clair, and Gunner Hall.
Coming from a very large family, Jessie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Prayers will be held on Wednesday September 4, at 6:00pm at St Mary’s Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, September 5, at 10:00 am. at St. Mary’s Church Catholic Church , 8909 Mary Street. Interment to follow the Mass at Chilliwack Cemeteries.
