It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jo on September 25, 2025. She was a woman of deep faith, a devoted wife, loving mother, caring grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and loyal friend.
Jo was born on the prairies of Alberta in 1935. She trained as a teacher, with her first assignment in a one room school house, teaching Grades 1-9. Jo married her junior high sweetheart Norman in 1955. Six years later, the couple, along with 3 pre-schoolers, moved to Nigeria to work as missionary teachers. How frightening this prospect was to Jo, yet she faced the unknown with courage and grace, finding joy in another culture and new friends. The adventures in the African bush were overwhelming at times, yet Jo persevered and enriched the lives of those around her. Two more children were born in Africa. After 16 years overseas, the family settled in B.C.. This past July, Jo and Norm celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary!
Wherever she lived, Jo built a home overflowing with hospitality, laughter, and warmth. Her sewing skills and delicious meals were impressive. Jo will be remembered for her resilience, unwavering support, humility, and empathy. She leaves behind countless fond memories in the hearts of those who loved her.
She is survived by her husband Norman, daughters Judy (Stan), Bonnie (Sharif), Heidi, and sons Don (Shonni) and Steve (Judy), as well as 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Jo's Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 2nd at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Christian Reformed Church (9800 McNaught Road, Chilliwack).
