

Joseph William Robert Abel passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, at the age of 70. He was born on January 18, 1956 in Vancouver BC. Joe grew up in Langley, BC. He worked as a cuber man splitting cedar shakes from the early age of 16 till he was 57, which he then retired due to his diabetes. When Joe was healthy he enjoyed fishing, hiking, camping and travelling until his diabetes acted up and he started the onset of dementia.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Glenn and Elsie Abel and grandparents Frances and Kaino Kristjanson.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sandy of 48 years; Sisters Kathy, Kaino (Roy) Smith,Susan (John) Code, Nancy (Randy) McAuley, Carolyn Eedy; brother's Tim Abel and Mike (Rose) Abel as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; mother in-law Joyce; 2 sister in-laws and spouses as well as many friends.
One day when Joe was about 60 and he and Sandy were at Butchart Gardens in Victoria Joe forgot what parking lot he parked in and it took 2 hours to find the car. This was the start of his dementia.
The family would like to thank the Cascade Lodge Care Home and all the doctors, nurses and caregivers for their love and care for Joe.
There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dementia and Parkinson's.
